A very renowned and one-of-a-kind watch, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Enamel Monet "San Giorgio Maggiore" combines great craftsmanship with outstanding horology.
An invitation to journey. To commemorate Claude Monet's visit to Venice in 1908, the Reverso Tribute Enamel transports you to our Atelier des Métiers Rares™ and the Adriatic Sea's coasts. The white gold Art Deco case on the front displays a guilloché dial with blue Grand Feu enamel and a delicate herringbone pattern (360 lines). Five enameling coatings, seven kiln passes at over 800 °C, and about nine hours of lapidary are needed to achieve the bright, transparent color. Our artisans recreated a well-known impressionist painting of a sunset over San Giorgio Maggiore on the back by enameling it for 70 hours and firing it through 15 kiln cycles (at temperatures as high as 800 °C). The watch, which is limited to ten pieces, has a black alligator strap.
A Glimpse into History
Need led to the creation of the Reverso. British Army personnel stationed in India in the early 1930s had to deal with the issue of their wristwatches becoming broken by hits when they were playing polo. Swiss entrepreneur and watch lover César de Trey brought this problem to Jacques-David LeCoultre, who worked with French designer René-Alfred Chauvot to come up with a novel solution: a watch with a reversible case.
Enamel Dial with Monet's Artwork: The watch's exquisite hand-painted enamel dial displays the well-known "San Giorgio Maggiore" picture by Claude Monet. Because the dial is painstakingly created by the talented artisans at Jaeger-LeCoultre, this piece exemplifies the blending of art and horology.
Reverso Case: The reversible casing, which is a part of the renowned Reverso series, enables the wearer to flip the watch to shield its face. This innovative case design provides a useful, stylish feature together with adaptability.
Swiss Mechanical Movement: Jaeger-LeCoultre is known for its exact timekeeping and exquisite craftsmanship, which are enhanced by the watch's superior mechanical movement.
