Richard Mille RM 17-02 : Manual Winding Tourbillon

Big announcements are not necessary for Richard Mille's new timepieces. They tend to speak for themselves since they are striking, assertive, daring, and uncommon. For this reason, it's possible that many people were unaware of the new RM17-02 manual wind tourbillon in grade-5 titanium. But at least in my opinion, it perfectly captures the essence of Richard Mille's fame.

The RM17-02, which was limited to 30 pieces, was released earlier this year in White Quartz TPT, one of Richard Mille's most expensive case materials. However, titanium—well, titanium and carbon nanofiber—is where Richard Mille got his start, so the new titanium release feels very natural for the watch.

History

Limited to 30 pieces apiece, the manual-winding RM 17-02 made its premiere in 2022 with a satin-finished 18-karat red gold case and lightweight TZP ceramic. The business then debuted a White Quartz TPT version earlier this year, which was likewise limited to 30 pieces.

Design

The tonneau-shaped case, which houses the RM17-02 skeletonised movement, is 40.10 mm wide, 48.15 mm long, and 13.08 mm thick. The manually-wound movement offers 70 hours of power reserve with display, with a function selector display, all in a 4.65mm thick movement. The baseplate, which supports the tourbillon movement with a fast-rotating barrel and variable-inertia balancing wheel, is machined from grade-5 titanium and finished with black PVD. The bridges are treated with blue PVD and 5N gold. The watch appears to be lightweight and should fit comfortably on the wrist, even if the brand hasn't released wrist images of it.
